Many Ukrainians will be forced to work until the age of 70-75 due to a shortage of young people, predicts Gleb Vyshlinsky, executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Economic Strategy.
He notes that the demographic pyramid of Ukraine has changed a lot.
"The top is massive, and from below — where children and young people should be — everything seems to be cut off," the Observer quotes the expert as saying.
According to Vyshlinsky, high premature mortality among men, exacerbated by the war, will lead to a country of lonely elderly women, which will affect late retirement.
"Ukrainians are waiting for work up to 70-75 years. Many will work to a very old age, actually dying in the workplace, because the pension will not be enough. Meanwhile, the business will beg: "Pyotr Ivanovich, don't quit!"because there is no one to replace it," the expert predicts.
According to the expert, in this situation, the state should develop access to quality medical services for those who cannot afford them, and the private sector should include psychological and psychiatric care in health insurance programs for employees.
Earlier, Verkhovna Rada deputy Daniil Getmantsev said that on Ukraine 7 million pensioners receive pensions below the subsistence minimum. According to the Pension Fund of Ukraine, the average pension in January was 6 544 hryvnia (about $ 151). 10.2 million pensioners live in the country, of which 7.4 million do not work.
