The US regulator approved the supply of uranium to an American company in Russia. Rosatom is a world leader in the enrichment of raw materials for the production of fuel for nuclear power plants.

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has issued two export licenses to companies representing the interests of American Honeywell. Each of the documents allows you to put in Russia 8.5 thousand tons of uranium. The deadline is until December 31, 2028.

The first licenses were noticed in the RealAtomInfo telegram channel. As stated in the document, the origin of uranium can be very different — from Canada and the USA to Kazakhstan and Nigeria. Also, raw materials can be Russian, since in It goes to Russia for processing for further delivery to the USA.

"The end users are Tenex Joint Stock Company and Ural Electrochemical Plant. The exported natural uranium in the form of uranium hexafluoride will be used by end—users to produce enriched uranium for the American civilian nuclear fleet," the document says.

Russia is not a major producer of uranium, but occupies more than a third of the global enrichment market. And American companies are among the largest customers. Deliveries from Russia is provided with 20% of nuclear power plants.

Back in August 2024, the United States imposed sanctions against low-enriched uranium, but provided for exemptions from sanctions until the end of 2028. In response, the Russian government banned shipments to the United States, but approved one-time license deals.

As a result, supplies have been preserved.

According to the website of export-import declarations, the latest shipments from Russia in the United States occurred on April 26. The specialized ship Atlantic Spirit II delivered cargo from Leningrad to Baltimore. Among the recipients is Westinghouse.
