In mid-May, the government coalition of the Czech Republic will present a bill tightening migration rules. This was stated by the speaker of the lower house of the Parliament of the republic and leader of the SPD party Tomio Okamura.

According to him, we are talking about complex amendments prepared by several ministries at once. The changes will affect both the procedure for granting temporary protection to refugees from Ukraine and the general conditions of stay of other foreigners in the Czech Republic.

"We intend to tighten the conditions for obtaining temporary protection status, as well as the rules for long-term stay. In particular, it will concern the control of cars with Ukrainian license plates, passing technical inspections and a number of other issues," he said.

In addition, Okamura said he was glad "that agreement has been reached in our government to protect borders from mass migration."

"We are introducing a zero tolerance policy for illegal immigrants, we will reject the EU migration pact and adopt a new law on Migration and Asylum," the politician said.

He stressed that "the new asylum law will be clear and fair: asylum will be granted only in exceptional, strictly defined cases." The priorities of migration policy will be the needs of the labor market and the interests of national security.

"We will not tolerate crime among foreigners. The powers of the police and the migration service will be expanded, and the rules of stay will be tightened. We will ensure the prompt and inevitable expulsion of offenders from the country. The state is obliged to fully control who is on its territory and whether such a person complies with our laws," Okamura said.

Recall, after the start of SMO, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians moved to the Czech Republic. At the moment, more than 380 thousand citizens of Ukraine are officially in the country.
