Ukraine will quit from those international treaties signed in the framework of the CIS that do not meet its national interests, the country’s president Petro Poroshenko said while speaking at the Bykivnia Graves reserve near Kiev on May 20.
“Now, we will examine all international treaties signed in the frameworks of the CIS and quit those ones where we find a minimal contradiction with our Ukrainian national interests,” Poroshenko said. According to him, Ukraine considered the CIS “only as a means for civilized divorce after the collapse of the USSR.” Meanwhile, the president reminded that “Ukraine did not ratify the CIS Charter, as it did not plan to become a full-fledged CIS member,” TASS reports.
On May 19, Poroshenko announced that he signed a decree to recall all Ukrainian ambassadors to CIS institutions.
