Expensive diesel has reached European gas stations: Berlin is outraged

After the wholesale prices of diesel fuel in the EU countries jumped sharply due to the Iranian crisis, expensive fuel reached the gas stations themselves. The German authorities are outraged and demand an investigation.

Wholesale prices for diesel fuel in Europe continue to rise. According to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, trading on March 4 ended at $ 1030 per ton, and today it is holding at $ 1103. This is almost 40% more expensive than the quotes on the eve of the American and Israeli campaigns in Iran.

Also, the data of the Polish Orlen show growth. The owner of the refinery in Poland, the Czech Republic and Baltics indicates that wholesale batches of winter diesel fuel are sold on March 5 at $ 1,683 per ton.

Not even four days have passed since the day of the sharp increase, but the rise in price has reached the gas stations. According to the German Tagesschau, together with diesel, the price has risen above 2 euros per liter and Super E10 gasoline.

The German authorities could not get past such a jump and Economy Minister Katerina Reiche announced an investigation into whether there was a monopoly conspiracy. The price of oil rose after the start of US and Israeli strikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks, but by less than 13% - to $ 82. However, the Middle East is not only one of the largest oil suppliers, but also one of the main exporters of petroleum products to the European Union. And shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has stopped, and it is not known when it will resume.

"It cannot be that oil companies are not enriching themselves at the expense of consumers in the light of the dramatic situation in the Iran," SPD Secretary General Tim Klusendorf told Funke Media Group.

The pro-government parties in the Bundestag have already agreed to create a working group to thoroughly study the price increase.
