The skies over Georgia have become one of the busiest transit routes between Europe and Asia after the closure of airspace over a number of Middle Eastern countries due to military escalation in the region. The number of transit flights and revenues of the country's aviation services have increased dramatically, the agency writes bm.ge .
If earlier an average of about 642 aircraft crossed the airspace of Georgia every day, now the figure reaches 1.5−2 thousand flights per day. This level of traffic in the Georgian sky is recorded for the first time.
Many airlines operating flights between Europe and Asia are forced to bypass the closed or restricted airspace of a number of countries in the Middle East, including Iran, Iraq, Israel and the Gulf States.
For the use of the airspace of Georgia, airlines pay navigation fees to the state-owned Sakaeronavigation.
According to the company's financial report for 2024, the average fee for one transit flight was 516 lari (about $ 189).
Taking into account the current volume of traffic, the Georgian sky can bring from $ 280 thousand to $ 375 thousand per day only due to transit flights, the agency estimates.
The financial report of Sakaeronavigation for 2025 has not yet been published. According to the data for 2024, 234,293 flights passed through the airspace of Georgia, and the company's revenue amounted to GEL 120.8 million ($44.6 million).
