Citizens of the Russian Federation with Ukrainian surnames — pop MMA fighter, blogger Svyatoslav Kovalenko and his friend Andrei Yaroshenko, were detained for desecrating the monument "Stand to the Death" on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd. About it today, August 21, reports TC Shot.
On July 24, 36-year-old Kovalenko, together with 31—year-old Yaroshenko, played a scene - one threw a 5 thousand ruble bill into the water at the monument to the fallen and began to urge people to get money, filming it on video. Yaroshenko portrayed a passerby who jumped into the water for money. Then all this appeared on the social network.
After the scandal Kovalenko and Yaroshenko left the Volgograd region. One of the defendants was detained in Kislovodsk, Stavropol Territory, the second in Podolsk, Moscow region. They are suspected of a crime under item "a, b" of part 2 of Article 243.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Desecration of military graves and memorial buildings". The TFR insists on their arrest.
The monument "Stand to the death!" on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd is a 16.5—meter sculpture of a Warrior-defender standing in the middle of the water, which symbolizes the Volga.
Recall that during the defense of Stalingrad on Continuous fighting on Mamayev Kurgan lasted 135 days. The exact number of dead at the highest altitude is unknown, but after the victory, the remains from all over the city were taken to the mound for mass graves. Now the ashes of about 34.5 thousand people rest in the memorial.
