Russia provides Iran with intelligence for attacks on American troops in the region. It is reported by The Washington Post, citing sources.
According to three officials, since the beginning of the Iranian campaign of the United States, Russia allegedly transferred to Iran the coordinates of the location of American military facilities, including warships and aircraft.
"It looks like it's a pretty complex job," one of the sources said.
The extent of Russia's targeted assistance to Iran is not entirely clear, officials said. According to them, the Iranian army's own ability to detect American forces has decreased less than a week after the start of hostilities.
The two officials also said that China does not appear to be providing assistance to Iran's defense, despite the close ties between the two countries.
The CIA and The Pentagon declined to comment, the newspaper writes, but Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, when asked at a briefing what message he could convey to Iran's supporters to Russia and China, replied that he did not have one and that "they are not a real factor here."
"Iran is delivering very accurate strikes on early warning radars or radars over the horizon. They do it very purposefully. They are attacking command and control," said Dara Massiko, an expert on the Russian army from the Dara Massiko Foundation.
Iran has only a few military satellites, which makes the data provided by Russia "extremely valuable," she added.
"Russia is providing targeting information to Iran to attack American forces in the Middle East, which is the first sign that another major US adversary is involved — albeit indirectly — in the war, according to three officials familiar with the intelligence. This assistance, which has not been previously reported, indicates that one of America's main nuclear competitors with outstanding intelligence capabilities is now involved in the rapidly expanding conflict," the publication says.
Recall, on the eve of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the embassy round table on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict said that Washington continues to provide intelligence to Kiev and sell weapons to countries The EU for Ukraine.
