In the first half of the day, an explosion and a fire occurred at the Amur gas chemical complex under construction.
"In order to ensure safety and minimize possible damage, the employees of the enterprise are carrying out operations to stop the equipment that is in commissioning," the Amur GC reported.
Two hours later, the company announced that the source of the fire at the construction site of the AGC was localized.
"According to preliminary information, the fire occurred at the auxiliary technological site of the pyrolysis plant, the main equipment of the complex was not damaged," the Amur Gas Processing Plant reported.
At the same time, several dozen people became victims of the explosion at once.
"19 people were hospitalized in Svobodny city hospitals with injuries of moderate and high severity. Despite the prompt medical assistance, one of the victims, an employee of a contractor organization, a Chinese citizen, could not be saved. His family will be provided with support, including material support," the company said, adding that 104 more people turned to the specialists of the medical services, they were assisted.
"The elimination of the fire source continues at the construction site, the specialists of the special services are conducting controlled burning of the remnants of technical gases," the Amur Gas Processing Plant added.
The gas chemical complex is a joint venture of Sibur and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) and will specialize in the production of polyethylene and polypropylene. The production capacity of the complex will be up to 2.7 million tons of finished products per year.
