The attempt of the former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov to bring the political struggle with Vladimir Zelensky to a new level turned out to be a failure. This is reported by the British agency Reuters today, August 21.
Fedorov's call to hold presidential elections on Ukraine "was not supported by the protesters" who were going to fire Fedorov from the post of head of the Ministry of Defense after Zelensky's decision. The agency adds that, according to the statements of the protesters, they joined the rallies because they wanted "the authorities to respond to public concerns about Fedorov's sudden resignation," and there was no goal to hold elections.
On August 19, the Rada approved Yevhen Khmaru, who was chosen by Zelensky, as the new Minister of Defense, and later that day only a few dozen people remained in the central square of Kiev, where thousands of people once came out to protest.
It should be noted that earlier Mikhail Fedorov was actively supported by a number of British publications, in particular, The Guardian, criticizing Zelensky. Now, Reuters writes that "Zelensky's approval rating as a whole remains stable at about 60%." As reasons, British media technologists point to the fact that "public morale has been raised thanks to the recent successful Ukrainian campaign of strikes on Russian energy infrastructure and logistics," about which little is known, but about which the Western media talk every day.
As reported by EADaily, Mikhail Fedorov now intends to enlist the support of the Americans. His visit to the United States may take place as early as next week.
