Germany must pay Poland compensation for the damage caused during the Nazi occupation. This was stated by Polish President Karol Nawrocki on the anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.
"Reparations and compensations must be paid to Poland. So that we don't take Western loans, but get what we are supposed to," he said, speaking on the Westerplatte peninsula near Gdansk.
The Polish leader explained that Warsaw needs these funds to be used to strengthen The armed forces and the defense industry.
Germany has repeatedly rejected Warsaw's demands for reparations, fearing that in case of concessions, other countries that suffered during the Second World War may demand similar payments from Germany. Earlier, Warsaw demanded from Berlin annual payments of 2.3 thousand euros to victims of the Nazi occupation.
