The authorities of Kamchatka warned the population about the complete shutdown of the Internet due to the "large-scale work" of Rostelecom, which will be carried out from September 25 to September 29.
"From September 25 to September 29, Rostelecom will carry out large-scale work on updating the coastal infrastructure of the Sakhalin-Kamchatka underwater fiber-optic communication line in the Ust—Bolsheretsky District," the Kamchatka Territory government website says.
"The temporary shutdown of the Internet in Kamchatka will not greatly affect the work of large retail chains," the authorities assured.
It is noted that the start and end of the work depends on the hydro — meteorological conditions of the conditions in the sea area, the work itself with a service break will take 48 hours.
During the shutdown, all key facilities — banks, shops, services and institutions — will switch to satellite communications, and retail chains, including the largest Shams," the government explained.
"To date, we have carried out appropriate work with every major entrepreneur. Our efforts are aimed at ensuring that large retail chains are not left without an Internet connection. Such work has already been carried out with Shamsa and other retail chains, as well as work is underway with enterprises that provide residents with dairy products. I can say for sure that residents will not be left without the necessary food, even if they suddenly forget to withdraw cash," said the head of the regional government, Yulia Morozova.
