The German authorities are making every effort to prevent the rise in prices at the country's gas stations caused by the Iranian war. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at a press conference in Berlin, PolitNavigator reports.
"Of course, we are watching developments in the energy markets very closely. The Federal Ministry of Economy and the Federal Antimonopoly Authority have also started an inspection," he said.
Merz declined to comment on the results of this audit. At the same time, he expressed concern about rising energy prices.
"We know that this may affect, among other things, the economic situation in Germany. And that is why we are doing everything possible to increase our independence in energy policy, as well as reduce energy prices in the long term by improving supply. But this is a task that cannot be completed within a few days," the Chancellor added.
