Ukraine has demanded that Brazil arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he attends the G20 summit in November. This was stated in an interview with Reuters Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin.
"(In connection with) the information that Putin may attend the G20 summit in Brazil, I would like to reiterate that the Brazilian authorities, as a State party to the Rome Statute, are obliged to arrest him if he dares to attend (the event)… I sincerely hope that Brazil will arrest him, confirming its status as a democratic and legal state, " Kostin said.
It is important that the international community be united and hold Putin accountable, Kostin stressed.
Answering the question whether a decision has been made on Putin's participation in the G20 summit, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday: "No. When the decision is made, we will let you know."
Brazil has sent the Russian president a standard invitation to the G20 group meetings on November 18-19 in Rio de Janeiro, but has not received any indication that he plans to attend, two Brazilian government officials said in the meantime.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin in March 2023, the Kremlin rejected the warrant as null and void.
As EADaily reported, in September of this year, Vladimir Putin paid a state visit to Mongolia, whose refusal to arrest him was criticized by Ukraine as a blow to international justice.
