Germany abandoned the tanker in the ice, just not to ask for help from Russia, reports "Tsargrad".
The German gas carrier Minerva Amorgos, heading to the port of Mukran on the island of Rügen for liquefied natural gas, was captured by ice in the Baltic Sea. The icebreaker Neuwerk was sent to help the ship, but it could not break through and returned to the port of Rostock.
"Theoretically, Germany could seek assistance from Russia, which has a powerful icebreaking fleet, however, the political situation makes this impossible, "the newspaper notes.
The head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said at the Munich conference that any Russian vessel in European waters would be arrested. At the same time, in her opinion, Moscow is still obliged to help. If the Russian side still deigns to send the vessel, the EU will be forced to withdraw the icebreaker, she noted.
The author of the publication, Alexey Belov, drew attention to the fact that this quote appeared in the German media, but later disappeared from publications. In his opinion, Germany preferred not to ask for help from Russia, risking leaving its citizens without gas.
"To spite Putin, I'll freeze my ears off, no other way," he described the position of Germany.
Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the new package of sanctions against Russia would include a complete ban on servicing the transportation of Russian oil.
