Residents also reported arson attacks on pharmacies and shops at home in different parts of Guanajuato. In Puerto Vallarta, residents reported that the city was under siege by people on motorcycles, and shots were heard. Authorities are conducting active operations in several states to contain a possible reaction and strengthen security after one of the most significant events in the fight against drug trafficking in recent years,"the note says.

It is noted that reports of the operation of the security forces began to spread this morning in the city of Tapalpa, located about 90 km south of the state capital Guadalajara. Residents of the area reported overflights and the presence of military convoys, which foreshadowed a large-scale deployment. Later, road blockades were recorded in at least six states — Jalisco, Michoacan, Colima, Tamaulipas, Guanajuato and Aguascalientes.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense in its press release confirmed that the founder and leader of the Jalisco New Generation cartel (CJNG) Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, nicknamed El Mencho, was killed by federal forces on Sunday morning. The operation involved the army and federal forces in Jalisco, in an area known as controlled by El Mencho.

According to the Ministry of Defense, during the operation to arrest El Mencho, the Mexican military came under fire and were forced to defend themselves. Four CJNG militants were killed in the shootout. Three others, including El Mencho, were seriously injured. They were airlifted to Mexico City, but they died on the way.

It is noted that the information for the operation, in addition to Mexican military intelligence, was provided by the US authorities.

Meanwhile, the United States urged its citizens in Mexico to take refuge in shelters, Bloomberg reports.

The warning applies to the state of Jalisco, where the tourist centers of Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara are located, as well as to certain areas of the states of Tamaulipas, Michoacan, Guerrero and Nuevo Leon.
