As part of the peace plan, the United States proposes to create on Ukraine has a demilitarized zone on the Korean model. This is reported by The Washington Post.
"A demilitarized zone will be created along the entire ceasefire line — from the Donetsk region in the northeast to the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions in the south. Beyond this demilitarized zone would be a deeper zone in which heavy weapons would be excluded. This line will be carefully monitored, like the demilitarized zone separating North and South Korea," the author of the publication writes with reference to American and Ukrainian officials.
According to the Ukrainian edition of Telegraf, the zone will be a line separating Ukrainian and Russian territories. The main elements can be as follows:
1. Demilitarized zone: an area without military forces of both sides with international observers to monitor compliance with the terms of the truce.
2. Checkpoints: places for inspections and monitoring in order to prevent escalation of the conflict.
3. Humanitarian corridors: routes for the delivery of humanitarian aid and evacuation of civilians.
4. International presence: the involvement of UN peacekeeping forces or other organizations to ensure stability in the region.
In general, the package for future negotiations includes a peace plan, security guarantees and an economic recovery plan. Among other things, the possibility of transferring control of the Zaporozhye NPP to the USA is being discussed. It is noted that this is a model of a truce with a buffer zone, but not the final position of Ukraine or the West.
