The 39-year-old SMO fighter from In Yakutia, Alexander Fedorov amputated his wounded leg on his own, having fired about 20 shots from a machine gun. He told about it in a video interview with Ruptly.
"We received a referral to New York (Novgorodskoye settlement in the DPR. — Approx. EADaily), they were happy with the guys there, we will take New York. <> I put on the armor, and immediately under it there is a bullet in the leg. My leg was torn in two places. It's been about five or seven days, everything has festered. There was no knife, I lost it."
Then Alexander found a kitchen knife, sharpened it, but he could not remove his leg, and his colleagues refused to help with this. The difficulty was to break the bone.
"I take the machine gun, well, I shoot. He shot about 20 times. I couldn't hit the bone. Then I hit it, then I did a test once or twice and took the knife. Shocked me in general harshly. Adrenaline or something. I am the only son, I could not die. I promised my mom I'd come anyway. Here, I kept my promise," Fedorov said.
Alexander also could not wait for evacuation due to a serious injury, as the fighting continued. All this time, the Yakut fighter was supported by his colleagues. It was possible to evacuate him only 10 days later.
