According to official statistics cited by RIA Novosti, the consumption of bread in Russia has almost halved in the last 20 years. Currently, this is an average of 35 kilograms of product per year, which is a record low.
If we compare with 2006, then only the average Russian ate 62 kilograms of bread per year.
Over the past 20 years, flour consumption in the country has also noticeably declined. At the same time, residents of Russia have become much more likely to buy bakery and flour confectionery products.
The source clarifies that the statistics did not include the bread that Russians buy for consumption at home, namely products in public catering — cafes and restaurants, schools and universities, in canteens of enterprises.
EADaily previously also informed about a new food trend in the capital — berries for 55 thousand rubles.
