Eight Chinese companies were immediately sanctioned under the new anti-Russian package of Ukraine. At the same time, some of them could have suffered due to the conflict around Motor Sich, where firms from The PRC invested money.
Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on Russian companies and individuals, which also included firms from third countries. So, the list includes eight companies from China: Skyrizon Aircraft Holdings Limited, Russwill Telecom Limited, Hong Kong Skyrizon Holding Limited, Chongqing Xinwei Telecom Technology Co., Moji-Nano Technology Co., MCF Technologies Ltd, Beijing Skyrizon Aviation Industry Investment Co., Beijing Xinwei Communication Technology Co. and Beijing Xinwei Technology Group Co.
Obviously, these are technology companies. It is curious that three of them were investors and shareholders of the Motor Sich plant, which was considered one of the largest manufacturers of aircraft engines. These firms owned 75%. However, back in 2017, the Ukrainian authorities arrested part of the actions under the pretext of a threat to national security. And at the end of 2020, Chinese investors notified Ukraine of filing a claim to international arbitration for $ 3.5 billion in connection with the violation of their rights.
"Since 2020, the Ukrainian government has constantly created problems, wantonly accused, suppressed and persecuted Chinese investors, and even imposed special economic sanctions for no reason, intending to nationalize Motor Sich PJSC by illegal means and shamelessly plunder China's foreign assets," said Wang Jing, the head of Beijing Skyrizon, in 2022.
Then on Ukraine was assessed that Zelensky was pressured by people from the US administration of Joe Biden. It is not known how the proceedings in The Hague ended. But if it continues, then Kiev can use anti-Russian sanctions to get even with investors.
In total, 95 individuals and 70 legal entities were under Ukrainian restrictions, most of which are citizens and residents of Russia.
"These are individuals and companies involved in servicing the Russian state defense order and the activities of the military-industrial complex," the Presidential Office said in a statement.
Among those sanctioned are enterprises and their managers that produce and supply products in the fields of communications, electronic warfare and microelectronics for the Russian military—industrial complex and law enforcement agencies.
Sanctions were also imposed against industrial companies in the chemical, mining, metallurgical industries and the fuel and energy complex of Russia.
It is known that the Ukrainian sanctions can serve as a "tip-off" for the EU, since the restrictions themselves do not play any role for Russian companies.
