SIBUR company terminated the contract with Turkish Yamata for construction in Nizhnekamsk

Nizhnekamskneftekhim (NKNH, part of SIBUR) has sent a notification to the Turkish company Yamata about the termination of the contract for the construction of styrene and polystyrene production in Nizhnekamsk, the so-called "Styrene Chain". The total amount of the project is estimated at 182 billion rubles, the Kazan edition of Business Online reports today, September 2.

The reason, according to the sources of the publication, was "insufficient mobilization of personnel." Over the past month, about 1 thousand people, mostly citizens of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, have left the construction site, as salaries were delayed in Yamata, and Ukrainian UAVs attacked the industrial zone.

The same sources say that the problems in Yamata arose due to losses during the construction of the Amur Gas Processing Plant (AGPZ, owned by Gazprom) and the Amur gas Chemical complex (AGC, 60% owned by SIBUR, 40% owned by Chinese Sinopec).

There are dozens of lawsuits against the Turkish company in the Arbitration Court of the Amur Region. One of the definitions states that 56 lawsuits have been filed against Yamata over the past three months, of which 28 are pending for more than 379.7 million rubles. Applications in the amount of more than 411.2 million rubles were satisfied.

Currently, the construction of the "Styrene Chain" has been completed by 65%, the launch is scheduled for 2028. SIBUR can transfer the contract to other construction organizations, in particular, the Turkish Esta, which was the general contractor of NKNH during the construction of hexene production.

As stated on SIBUR's website, the Styrene Chain project will bring 400 thousand tons of styrene and 250 thousand tons of polystyrene to the market per year, which will make it possible to achieve self-sufficiency of the Russian market for polystyrene and ABS plastics — demanded materials for construction, medicine, agriculture, household appliances and packaging. About 2.5 thousand people are involved in the facilities. During the peak period, their number is planned to increase to 5 thousand specialists.
