Turkish power-generating vessels, for which Kiev spent millions of dollars on infrastructure, went to Iraq.
"BKPS, a subsidiary of Karpowership, has signed a contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Energy and General Company for Electric Energy Production / Southern to launch a new electricity generation project in Iraq, which provides fast, reliable and affordable electricity supply to strengthen the country's energy security," the Turkish company reports.
Karpowership noted that two power plants will provide a capacity of 590 MW.
"In accordance with the agreement, the company will supply electricity during the initial contract period of 71 days, playing a crucial role in stabilizing the national energy system and meeting demand," the company said.
The power plants will be located in the ports of Khor Al Zubayr and Umm Qasr in Basra and are expected to start work in August.
Previously, these vessels had to leave for Ukraine, which is still experiencing a shortage of electricity. Kiev has invested $ 7 million in infrastructure to connect to the power grid in Odessa. However, he later abandoned them. They were motivated by too high a rental price and strict requirements of the owner. Ukrainian journalists suspected another corruption.
Officials unexpectedly found out for themselves that the cost of the lease would be extremely high, about $ 250 million per year, which would make the electricity generated by the ships the most expensive in the country — 9 thousand UAH per MWh.
"Ukraine hoped that part of the financial costs would be borne by international partners, but it was not possible to attract the necessary funding," wrote Ukrainian Forbes.
