Venezuela had the most powerful air defense system in Latin America, but it did not help. Ukrainian military expert Konstantin Mashovets writes about this in his telegram channel.
"Before the American "infiltration", according to a number of experts, Venezuela had the most powerful and layered air defense system in Latin America," the expert writes.
According to him, these are 20-22 Su-30MKV, up to 10 F-16 ("old, but at least half in working condition"), 2 anti—aircraft missile divisions each - S-300VM and Buk-2ME ("including up to 12 PU of the first type and not less than 200 anti-aircraft missiles to it"), from 10 to 12 Tor-M1 air defense systems, about 250 units of various types of MANPADS plus additional Russian supplies before the American invasion, about 260 barrels of anti-aircraft artillery, including Swedish Bofors, of which about 100-110, of the Bofors L70 type, up to 18 radar units, including Chinese three-axis JYL-1 and JY—11B - from 8 to 10.
"Judging by the first shots, where the United States is already confidently using its combat helicopters in Venezuelan airspace, all this did not help. There are only two possible options here — either the Americans managed to "endure" all this in advance (first of all), or the Venezuelan military failed (or did not want) to organize the combat use of these means," Mashovets notes.
As EADaily reported, the United States attacked Venezuela this morning. Missile strikes hit military bases, airfields, ports and other strategic facilities. President Donald Trump said that US special forces captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and took them out of the country.
