A mineral unknown to science has been found in Russia, which is worth more than gold

An extremely expensive mineral, previously unknown to science, has been discovered in Russia — its value exceeds the value of gold. The new sample was named "Kola ashcroftin".

This was reported on Saturday, August 1 by RIA Novosti, referring to the Ministry of Education and Science. They clarified that the discovery was made by employees of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg State University and Mineralogical Museum named after Fersman.

It is specified that a previously unknown mineral was discovered at the Kirov mine of the Khibiny massif. They could not identify him and came to the conclusion that we are talking about a sample unknown to science. It was called "Kola ashcroftin".

It has been established that the composition of the mineral includes the rare earth element yttrium. In addition, it contains silicon, potassium, sodium and other elements. The uniqueness of the Kola find is in the presence of calcium, manganese and fluorine, and its structure is among the most complex known.

The estimated average price of plaque on the rock reaches $ 145 (12,470 rubles) per millimeter, which exceeds the cost of gold. The mineral looks like classic ashcroftin (pink, transparent and brittle silicate), which is found in Greenland, Canada and Italy.

Russian scientists plan to continue studying the properties of the mineral and its possible use. Perhaps this discovery will be an important step for Russian science.
