The Russian Foreign Ministry and its head Sergey Lavrov condemned the US aggression and demanded the release of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. In response, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated the minister on Christmas.
"Yes, we are not interested in Russia's escalation against Venezuela. I mean, we expected them to provide rhetorical support to the Maduro regime," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said when asked about Russia's reaction to the US operation in Venezuela.
"I think they already have their hands full on Ukraine. And if Lavrov is watching: Sergey, Merry Christmas!", — said Marco Rubio.
According to him, Washington expected Moscow's reaction.
"The rhetoric that we hear is that this is not a factor affecting our understanding of everything that is happening," the Secretary of State added.
As EADaily reported, the United States conducted an operation to capture the Venezuelan president and his wife and took them to the United States. The events caused a contradictory reaction in the world, including in the United States itself. The seizure was condemned by Russia, China, Brazil, France, Colombia, Cuba, Belarus and other countries.
