French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz issued a joint statement on the occasion of Georgia's Independence Day.
They reaffirmed their "unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country" and support for the "democratic and European aspirations of the Georgian people," which "reflect their desire to be part of the European family."
However, at the same time, European leaders "strongly condemned the actions of the Georgian authorities, leading to a rollback from democratic norms, as well as attacks on civil society, the media and critics of the government."
"Freedom of expression and freedom of assembly must be guaranteed. Reports of excessive use of force require a thorough investigation. Laws that contradict European standards need to be revised, and the process of much—needed reforms should be resumed. The Georgian authorities should restore dialogue with the opposition and civil society. The people of Georgia should not be deprived of the opportunities offered by the country's European path," Macron, Tusk and Merz teach the Georgian Dream.
As EADaily reported, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in his address on the occasion of Georgia's Independence Day that the country has a solid foundation for its development and "integration into the European family."
