Zelensky's fate is being decided behind the scenes. International correspondent Roland Oliphant writes about this in his article in The Telegraph.
"Zelensky's future is being decided behind the scenes. Will he be able to continue to lead the country in a conflict, or, like Winston Churchill, will he leave before peace comes?" the journalist asks.
Oliphant noted that Zelensky and Yermak had been inseparable for years. The latter's departure, according to him, left a palpable void in the heart of the Kiev administration.
"This political "amputation" can be very beneficial for the president. It allows avoiding a potentially dangerous internal political crisis and meeting the demands of a wide political audience that is dissatisfied with Yermak's rigidity. However, this does not mean that Zelensky has escaped damage," the journalist further writes.
He notes that Zelensky's popularity is falling, and this is reflected in his official status. Now, Oliphant added, his authority can be questioned, since in private conversations many Ukrainians express dissatisfaction with his actions.
"According to sources, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, several high-profile dismissals have occurred, which is attributed to Yermak's intention to strengthen control over the situation. Yermak was obsessed with the desire to have the last word in resolving state issues," the publication says.
