Russian universities are switching to a new system and should do so within two years — from 2026 to 2027. The terms of training will also change.
"Universities will have a single level — higher education. But the duration of the training will be different," Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.
They cited the statement of the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov that for engineers, doctors, teachers, the training period will be 5 years. At the same time, for tourism and information technology directions — 4 years.
"Complex high—tech areas will require six years of preparation," the newspaper writes.
The magistracy will also change, which will become a specialized higher education.
"It is proposed to divide it into three tracks: professional, managerial and research," Rossiyskaya Gazeta continues.
Postgraduate studies in these conditions will become a separate type of education. It will be aimed at training scientists and researchers and the main criterion of effectiveness will be the successful defense of the thesis.
"The new model will provide training of full-fledged specialists. For example, it will be not just an "engineer", but a qualified "mining engineer", "mathematics teacher", "molecular biologist". So, opening a diploma, the employer will immediately understand who came to him with what qualifications," the government newspaper added.
