Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian appealed to Islamic countries to provide support in normalizing the situation in Syria. According to the IRNA news agency, the Iranian politician stressed that Iran does not want hostilities and does not want a revision of borders with its neighbors.
"I hope that the problem that has arisen in Syria will be solved with the help of Islamic states. Muslim countries will not allow their conflicts to become the basis for further foreign interference in the affairs of the region," he said at a joint meeting of the Iranian government and parliament.
Peseshkian recalled the success of diplomacy in Iran's relations with other countries in the region.
"For example, for the first time all regional states have condemned Israeli aggression against Iran, and I commend the neighbors for their correct position," he said.
As EADaily reported, the Arab League is monitoring the situation in Syria "with great concern." The Arab League stressed the need to respect the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
Syria's membership in the league was suspended in 2011 amid the suppression of protests by opponents of the Assad regime, which sparked a civil war. Last year, the Arab League members decided to return Damascus to their membership.
