Two people have been shot today in the center of Kiev near Premier Palace hotel. According to the Kiev police press office, one of the victims is former Russian MP Denis Voronenkov.
The fact is confirmed by chief of the city police Andrey Krischenko. According to witnesses, no less than seven shots were heard.
Local media report that Voronenkov’s bodyguard managed to injure the killer. Both have been hospitalized.
This February, Denis Voronenkov was put on wanted list by the Russian Investigation Committee. He was suspected in a raider attack on a $5mn building in Moscow city center. Before that, the Russian Communist Party expelled him from its lists. His spouse, opera singer Maria Maksakova was a member of the United Russia Party. After leaving to Ukraine, she was expelled from the party too. While being in Kiev, Voronenkov said he was granted Ukrainian citizenship and witnessed in an investigation against former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych.
Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko believes that the assassination was “a demonstrative execution of a witness.” In his Facebook account, Lutsenko accused the Kremlin of the murder.
