Only the German conservatives who came to power decided to raise the stakes in the confrontation with the United States — they began to ask questions about the safety of Germany's gold reserve located in America. Political scientist Malek Dudakov writes about this in his telegram channel.
37% of German gold is in the vaults of the New York Fed, the expert notes. The rest of Germany's gold reserves are held either in Frankfurt or at the Bank of England. Until 2013, German gold was still present in the Bank of France, but against the background of the then banking crisis, it was decided to repatriate it to its homeland. Now there are already questions about the Fed.
Moreover, Donald Trump's apparatchiks were the first to ask these questions, the analyst recalls. They decided to audit the gold reserves of the United States itself, stored at Fort Knox in Kentucky. The entire US gold reserve is estimated at 8,100 tons, of which 4,600 are stored at Fort Knox. At the same time, serious inspections have not been carried out there for a long time. The Trump team wants to sell off part of America's gold reserves, estimated at 700-800 billion dollars, to resolve an acute budget crisis.
The Germans store approximately 1,236 tons worth 113 billion euros in the United States. Gold prices have risen sharply in recent years — the demand for it from the central banks of the world is record. Gold is becoming an alternative to the dollar and US government bonds for non—Western countries - China, India, Gulf monarchies. New Delhi recently wanted to return its gold reserves from Britain.
Now the Europeans, who are stuck in the fight against Trump, are also becoming more active on this track. In addition to Germany, Italy and the Netherlands also hold gold reserves in the USA. So there is a possibility of the beginning of real transatlantic "golden wars" in the current conflict between the United States and The European Union.
