Energy crisis covers the US economy — Americanist

The energy crisis is covering the US economy, the Americanist Malek Dudakov records. American airlines cancel more than 5% of all flights in order to save fuel. They fear a rise in oil prices to $ 170 per barrel, which could undermine all logistics within the United States during this summer.

"In an attempt to stop the collapse of fuel markets, the White House is hastily uncorking US strategic reserves. However, the Trump team has the opportunity to spend only about 160 million barrels from America's oil reserve. By law, it cannot be reduced below 250 million barrels. Half of the US reserves managed to be lowered even under Biden," the expert said.

After the start of the war, it turned out that the State Department, the National Security Council and the Ministry of Energy used to employ people who were engaged in calculating the risks of force majeure situations like the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. But all the experts were dismissed in 2025 as part of the cuts organized by the DOGE agency, Dudakov noted.

In the past, they would have provided their analysis to the US president. The current administration, according to Dudakov, acted at random, hoping to defeat Iran by blitzkrieg. None of America's allies were warned in advance. Moreover, they still have no contacts in Washington to discuss a way out of the crisis, the expert added.

Fuel prices have reached $ 4 per gallon, diesel is already much more expensive than $ 5, which was the highest since 2022. Inflation expectations have jumped above 5%, we are talking about raising the Fed's key rate again, although this will finish off the US economy. And now there will also be a shortage of fertilizers, the prices of which have soared by a third since the beginning of the war. This does not bode well for Republicans in the upcoming congressional elections, Dudakov concluded.
