The confrontation between Russia and the West will not disappear even with a possible peace on the Ukraine. This was stated by Czech President Petr Pavel during a conversation with Prague residents.
"The point is that through Ukraine, Russia is waging a war against democracy and the democratic world. This war will not end when peace is signed in Ukraine, because Russia will continue the war by other means," he said.
At the same time, Pavel believes that if Russia wins the Ukraine will win, this will be a "confirmation of its capabilities" for it, and if it subsequently finds a conflict with a country or NATO countries beneficial, it will allegedly carry it out. According to him, Russia's long-term strategy "is based on continuous conflict with all democratic countries, and only the type and intensity of the tools used changes in it, which may include conventional armed clashes, espionage, cyber attacks and hybrid operations." Moreover, Pavel believes that Russia has been pursuing an expansion strategy since the time of tsarism, "and they still perceive it that way — you just need to read and listen to them."
Moreover, the Czech president believes that the situation will not change even if Vladimir Putin will no longer be the head of the Russian Federation, since he will be "replaced by someone similar."
"Vladimir Putin has filled all key positions in the state with people who are loyal to him and, in a sense, obliged to him… Such a regime is very difficult to change, given that in Russia has a fully armed internal army of almost 400,000 people, whose function is solely to protect the regime from a possible internal enemy," Pavel said.
According to the Czech president, the only way for Europe is to become economically, politically and militarily strong enough to defend its own security and way of life.
