TEC: The US has trapped Europe by easing sanctions against Russian oil

Washington's decision to ease sanctions on Russian oil was a turning point for Europe, which was trapped.

This opinion was expressed by Spanish journalist Javier Villamor in his article for The European Conservative (TEC). He believes that this step is of great political importance.

"This gesture has great political significance. For the first time since the tightening of sanctions due to the conflict on In Ukraine, the White House openly admitted that under certain circumstances, Russian oil again becomes necessary for the balance of the global energy system,"the publication says.

At the same time, it is indicated that the United States decided to ease sanctions against Russia alone, without any consultations with the European Union, which actually put Europe in a desperate situation.

It is also noted that after Washington's decision, the difference in approaches to sanctions policy between the US and the EU became obvious. It is now clear that sanctions are a flexible political tool for the Americans.

"And in Europe, on the contrary, abandoning dependence on energy has become a political commitment that is difficult to overcome," the author of the material writes.

He states that as a result, Europe was faced with a choice between the need for pragmatism and the burden of its own rhetoric, in which Russophobia has become the main leitmotif.

Recall that the US Treasury Department announced the lifting of sanctions on Russian oil and petroleum products that were loaded onto ships before March 12.

At the same time, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stressed that this is only a short-term and highly specialized measure that allegedly will not bring Moscow much benefit.

And on March 13, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the European Union should follow the example of the United States and temporarily ease sanctions against oil from the Russian Federation, and not "dance to the tune" of Kiev.

As EADaily reported, the head of the Kiev regime Zelensky criticized US President Donald Trump for the decision to lift sanctions on Russian oil.
