Tishkovets predicts an abnormal winter in Russia

Most of Russia may face abnormally warm and humid winters under the influence of the climatic phenomenon of El Nino. This forecast was given by the leading specialist of the weather center "Phobos" Evgeny Tishkovets.

According to the meteorologist, the most noticeable deviation from the climatic norm is predicted for almost the entire territory of the country, with the exception of the Arctic zone, northern Siberia, Chukotka and areas near the Bering and Chukchi Seas.

"Most of the territory of our country will be under abnormal heat. Moreover, the excess over the norm will reach three to four degrees", RIA Novosti quoted Tishkovets as saying.

The forecaster noted that the peak of warming in the central and southern regions of Russia is likely to be in February. Along with an increase in temperature, an increase in precipitation is expected: in January, their volume may exceed the norm by 30-40%.

El Nino is a climatic phenomenon associated with an increase in water temperature in the central and eastern part of the equatorial Pacific Ocean. According to Tishkovets, it can affect not only the winter period, but also the subsequent seasons of the year.

Not all winter will take place in conditions of constant heat and slush. Periods of heavy snowfall can be replaced by thaws, which can lead to the formation of fogs, reduced visibility and disruptions in transport.

In addition, the meteorologist warned about the possibility of snowstorms due to the active intake of Atlantic heat and the release of southern cyclones.
