The Parliament of Abkhazia at a meeting on Friday will begin considering the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement "On the investment activities of Russian legal entities in the Republic of Abkhazia," a source in the legislature told RIA Novosti.
In the Abkhaz opposition, the agreement caused dissatisfaction with the authorities, as it allegedly contains norms authorizing the construction of apartments, the bill on which the parliament had previously rejected. On Friday, the opposition has already planned protests near the parliament.
The agreement, signed on October 30 in Moscow, allows Russian companies to implement investment projects in Abkhazia. As the head of the Committee on International Relations of the Abkhaz parliament, Alkhas Bartsits, said earlier, Abkhazia alone will not be able to find the means to restore the key, fundamental areas of its economy.
At the beginning of the week, opposition protests were held in Sukhum after the parliament adopted the law "On regulating the legal status of multifunctional complexes." This law was necessary to regulate the new concept of "multifunctional complexes", which first appeared in the intergovernmental agreement "On investment activities with Russian Legal entities in the Republic of Abkhazia".
Several oppositionists were detained by the State Security Service of Abkhazia on Monday evening for a brawl outside the parliament building. In response, the opposition blocked three bridges at the entrance to Sukhum. After the release of their supporters on Tuesday evening, the oppositionists unblocked the passage.
