Former Odessa Region Governor Mikheil Saakashvili is detained in Kiev and put to pretrial custody, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko informs.
“The National Police have found where Saakashvili was and detained him. He is put in a pretrial custody,” Lutsenko said.
Saakashvili’s supporters confirm the detention in his Facebook account. They call to gather near the pretrial center where Saakashvili is kept.
Earlier, Mikheil Saakashvili announced that he was ill: he had strained voice and running temperature. Evidently, this why he wasn’t seen at the tent camp near the Supreme Rada in Kiev on Dec 7. However, he promised to return back to the protesters on Sunday.
On Dec 5, he was detained by police near his home, but his supporters manage to let him escape. The second attempt to detain him was taken next morning, but failed.
