Ireland plans to return home 16 thousand Ukrainians. It is reported by The Sunday Times.
The Irish authorities are tired of the fact that Ukrainians who arrived at the beginning of the war continue to depend on state support.
"We want to put an end to a situation where 16,000 people... will no longer rely on us. After all, no other country The EU does not provide such conditions. They will have to leave because we are terminating contracts... I want this schedule to be completed within the next 12 months," said State Minister for Migration Colm Brophy.
Now the Irish authorities are discussing whether it will be the cancellation of the temporary protection directive or the restriction of assistance only for residents of the most affected areas, he noted. At the same time, a voluntary return program is being prepared with payments of up to 2,500 euros per person or up to 10,000 euros per family.
These are "generous" measures, the minister stressed, they are comparable to the support provided to refugees upon their arrival. "It is quite logical to respond generously, giving people the opportunity to return," he added.
It is noted that since February 2022, more than 125 thousand Ukrainians have received temporary protection in Ireland. Effect of the relevant directive The EU is due to end in March next year.
