A tanker with Russian fuel made three attempts to approach Venezuela. However, the American destroyer prevented. This is reported by Bloomberg. The tanker itself is under sanctions for transporting Russian oil.
"The Russian oil tanker, which is under sanctions, turned around on its way to Venezuela after an American warship crossed its route off the coast of the country. This raised questions about whether Washington could intervene and limit Moscow's energy aid to Caracas," Bloomberg writes.
According to him, Seahorse was heading to Venezuela for the delivery of fuel on November 13, when the American destroyer Stockdale was on its way.
"The vessel changed course, heading towards Cuba, and the warship passed near the territorial waters of Venezuela towards Puerto Rico. Since then, Seahorse has twice tried to approach Venezuela, but returned back both times and is still idling in the Caribbean," the agency writes.
According to Equasis, the Comorian-flagged tanker is owned and operated by companies from the UAE. The vessel is considered a shadow fleet tanker and is under US, EU and Great Britain for the transportation of Russian oil.
AIS data of vessels confirm that Seahorse is located off the coast of Venezuela. Besides him, Venezuela also has two more sanctioned tankers — New Power and Azure Voyager.
Despite its own oil production, Venezuela needs fuel, as well as lighter oil for the operation of the country's refineries.
As EADaily reported, on November 16, the US Navy carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford entered the Caribbean Sea. The arrival of the aircraft carrier group was a significant increase in American forces near the border with Venezuela.
So far, the US Navy has destroyed only boats that allegedly transported drugs. However, Caracas suspects that the United States is preparing a full-fledged invasion.
