US President Donald Trump, speaking about the possible provision of 17 Patriot to Ukraine, probably had in mind not 17 batteries, but 17 launchers (PU) of the air defense system. The Ukrainian edition of Strana writes about this.
It is noted that, reporting today at a meeting at the White House with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about the possible imminent transfer of 17 Patriot to Kiev, Trump did not specify what he meant. If there are 17 batteries, "then this is an exorbitant amount," the newspaper notes. So, according to open sources, NATO member Germany has only six of them today, and the closest US ally Israel has three. Ukraine, according to media reports, has 6-8 batteries.
"Therefore, it is more likely that we can talk about two or three batteries. The NATO standard is up to six launchers, but to increase the density of fire in combat conditions, it is allowed to deploy up to ten launchers. That is, it is either two batteries of 8-9 launchers, or three of 5−6. As a result, the number 17 comes out, which Trump operated on," the publication says.
Earlier it was reported that Europe wants to purchase three Patriot air defense systems in the USA for Kiev.
As EADaily reported, to send to Ukraine is preparing 17 Patriot air defense systems. This was stated today at the White House during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte by US President Donald Trump, the telegram channel "Pool No. 3" reported. According to Trump, one of the countries has 17 Patriot air defense systems in stock, which are now being prepared for shipment.
Recall, the Russian Armed Forces destroyed two launchers of the American Patriot air defense system in a day. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry the day before.
"Two launchers and a US—made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system radar station were destroyed," the military department said in a statement.
