Trump is preparing an alibi for himself in case of a war between Europeans and Russia — Pushkov

Speaking to the military, US President Donald Trump confirmed what he had already said before: when the US needed the support of NATO countries in the war in Iran, they were not there, and the US will remember this. According to Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov, this is a clear hint that when European allies need US help, they may not get it.

For this reason, the senator advises Europeans not to count on the automatic entry into force of the 5th paragraph of the Washington Treaty on the creation of NATO, which prescribes strict adherence to the principle of joint action in the event of a military conflict.

"Everything will depend on the specific circumstances. And Trump's constant return to this topic suggests that the US president is preparing a potential alibi for himself in case the Europeans fly into a military conflict with Russia with all their might. In this case, they may well stay with Russia is one—on-one, and the United States, by and large, can wash its hands of it or limit itself to purely symbolic support," Pushkov said.

As the senator writes in the telegram channel, the American president does not need a war with Russia.

"Why does Trump need a possible war with Russia because of the aggressiveness and stupidity of the Europeans, who also hate Trump himself? I think he has asked himself this question more than once. And the answer, I think, was the same: there is no need," concluded Pushkov.
