German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is ready to call Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a 30-day truce with Ukraine proposed by the West. He stated this in an interview with ZDF TV channel during a visit to Kiev.

So he answered the relevant question.

"If such an opportunity presents itself during my visit to Kiev, I will do it. But in coordination with all European partners. We speak here with one voice. And if it comes to that, I will also act in coordination with the US president," Merz said, quoted by RIA Novosti.

As reported by EADaily, from Monday, May 12, a full and unconditional cease-fire should begin for at least 30 days, any conditions will be considered as an attempt to disrupt the negotiations. This was stated today at the meeting of the "coalition of the willing" in Kiev by the leader of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, UNIAN reported.

Recall, on November 15 last year, the then Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin (before that, they spoke by phone on December 2, 2022). In the West, the Chancellor's initiative was sharply criticized, and Kiev also expressed dissatisfaction. In December, Scholz said on RTL that he was ready to hold a telephone conversation with Putin again, since the previous conversation had disappointed him. Later, Scholz also expressed his intention to call Putin.
