The third suspicion was announced to the Chief of the General Staff of Russia Gerasimov

The SBU and the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine Kiev have already issued the third suspicion to the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov. This time — for a massive strike on Kiev on the night of July 2, 2026.

According to the Ukrainian investigation, Gerasimov personally commanded the attack, during which Russia used 570 drones and missiles, including Zircon and Iskander-M, on the capital. More than 100 people were injured, 70 were hospitalized, more than 20 residential buildings were damaged.

Ukraine announced the previous suspicion to Gerasimov on July 3 — also in the case of a strike on Kiev. And in 2015, the SBU put Gerasimov on the wanted list in the case of the encirclement and defeat of Ukrainian forces near Ilovaisk.

The SBU also points out that on the basis of its materials, in June 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Gerasimov in the case of "war crimes related to strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector in 2022-2023."

It should be clarified that suspicion of Ukrainian justice is not the final charge. The charge is formulated later in the indictment. If the person involved is outside Ukraine (as in the case of Valery Gerasimov), the suspicion is handed over "in absentia". It is sent to the place of registration, published in the government newspaper "Uryadovy Courier" and on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office.
