Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov disagreed with the words of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev about the right of states to territorial integrity. He stated this in an interview with the newspaper Kommersant.
It was about the statement of the Kazakh leader that if guided solely by the idea of the right of nations to self-determination, many regional conflicts will break out in the world. According to Lavrov, Tokayev takes into account only the right of states to territorial integrity.
"I remember this speech by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. I don't agree with him. We then explained our position to our Kazakh friends. For him, there is only the right to territorial integrity. I repeated to him that if Kazakhstan is a member of the UN, then they should respect the Charter of the Organization in its entirety," the Russian Foreign minister said.
He added that the UN Charter also speaks about the right of peoples to self-determination.
"The right to territorial integrity is respected by those countries whose governments represent all the people living in this territory," Lavrov said.
