American actor, film director, screenwriter and producer Sean Penn did not attend the Oscar ceremony, which was his third in his career, due to a visit to Ukraine. Vladimir Zelensky posted a photo with the star on his telegram channel.
"Thanks to you, Sean, we know what a true friend of Ukraine is," he wrote.
Zelensky expressed confidence that Sean Penn will continue to be "with our country and our people."
Recall, in an interview in September 2023, Sean Penn said that the Oscar statuettes should be destroyed.
"I thought, well, damn, you know? Why not, I will give them to Ukraine. They will melt them into bullets to shoot Russians," said Penn, smoking an American Spirit cigarette.
As EADaily reported, two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn was awarded another statuette in the Best Supporting Actor category the day before for his work in the film "Battle after Battle" by Paul Thomas Anderson. In total, the film won six statuettes.
