The return of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant to the Russian nuclear industry is a fait accompli that the international community can only recognize, the transfer of the NPP itself or control over it to Ukraine or any other country is impossible. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The statement was made in connection with "speculation spread in the media about the possible transfer ... of the NPP to Ukraine or the establishment of some kind of "joint control" over the station with Ukraine, the United States or representatives of international organizations."

"We would like to clarify the following.

ZAES is a Russian nuclear facility. Following the results of the referendums held at the end of September 2022, the DPR, the LPR, the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions became part of the Russian Federation as full-fledged subjects. On October 5, 2022, the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 711 "On the peculiarities of legal regulation in the field of the use of atomic energy in the Zaporozhye region" was signed, which consolidated the status of the NPP as a facility under Russian jurisdiction.

The station's return to the Russian nuclear industry is a fait accompli that the international community can only recognize. The transfer of the NPP itself or control over it to Ukraine or any other country is impossible," the ministry said in a statement published on its website.

It is noted that all employees of the station are citizens of Russia, it is impossible to play with their lives, especially given the atrocities that Ukrainians have committed and continue to commit on the territory of our country.

Joint operation of the NPP with any state is also unacceptable, there are no such precedents in world practice, the Foreign Ministry noted.

"In this case, for example, it is impossible to properly ensure nuclear and physical nuclear safety, to resolve issues of civil liability for nuclear damage. An important aspect is that the close cooperation of the intelligence services of NATO countries with impressive sabotage potential with Ukraine makes it impossible even for the temporary admission of representatives of these states to the NPP," the department stressed.

The idea of any international organizations participating in the operation of the station looks absurd, since neither the mandate nor the competence of any of them allow them to participate in the operation of nuclear facilities.

"In accordance with international law, including key relevant conventions, the main responsibility for ensuring nuclear and physical nuclear safety on their territory is borne by the states themselves. In the case of the NPP, this is the Russian Federation, and in no other way," the Foreign Ministry summed up.

As EADaily reported today, the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, confirmed that US President Donald Trump wants to get the Zaporozhye NPP under US control, noting that "it won't work."
