Slovakia at the EU summit insisted on the principle of voluntariness in the provision of military assistance to Ukraine by the states of the community. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Republic Robert Fico.
"We insisted that participation in such a gathering should be voluntary, otherwise we would have vetoed it, since no one can force Slovakia to spend € 250 million from its budget to the detriment of priority domestic needs to buy weapons to Ukraine," he said.
According to him, Bratislava will not send a single cent for weapons for Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that many EU countries have disagreements about plans to give Kiev 20-40 billion euros, but everyone agrees on the need to strengthen Europe's security.
Recall, Russia holds on Ukraine has been conducting a special military operation since February 24, 2022. The EU condemns Moscow and provides assistance to the Kiev regime. Previously in Brussels wanted to allocate up to 40 billion euros for the supply of weapons to Ukraine, but the consent of all members of the community was not received.
