Some deputies of the Lithuanian Seimas sympathize with Russia, and in general, a "fifth column" is being formed in the parliament of the Baltic republic. This was stated by the speaker of the Seimas Saulius Skvernalis.
In an interview with the TV channel LRT Skvernalis, the former Prime Minister of Lithuania, said:
"A kind of "fifth column" is being created in the Seimas, this can be seen from their voices. Obviously, there are fans of the eastern country [Russia. — EADaily ] and skeptics when it comes to our national security and defense."
The Lithuanian politician came to this conclusion after the end of the first closed parliamentary session in 34 years of "independence". The idea of holding a closed session belonged to Skvernalis himself, who considered that the deputies needed to familiarize themselves with "confidential information about the security situation in Lithuania."
Earlier, 18 out of 141 Lithuanian deputies, including deputies of the Dawn on the Neman party, which is part of the ruling coalition, abstained or voted against extending sanctions against Russia.
In addition to Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Shakalene, the head of military Intelligence, the Commander of the Lithuanian Defense General Staff, as well as the head of the Lithuanian Accounting Chamber Mindaugas Matsiauskas, presented an analysis of the defense budget management at a closed session of the Seimas.
