The Klaipeda District Court, three years after the decision of the Los Angeles court, ordered the owner of the liquidated Lithuanian company Mediatonas to pay € 250 thousand in favor of Hollywood actor Clint Eastwood. This is reported by the Delfi portal.
In 2021, the actor appealed to the Los Angeles court, accusing the Lithuanian company of using Eastwood's image in advertising the online sale of herbal narcotic drugs, thereby creating the impression that Clint Eastwood and the products sold by Mediatonas are related. At the same time, the American court awarded Eastwood compensation in the amount of € 5.274 million, exactly the amount the plaintiff indicated in the statement.
The company was subsequently removed from registration in Lithuania and liquidated. In this regard, Eastwood demanded the specified amount from the head of the liquidated company, who knew about the litigation in the United States, precisely because of this, he liquidated Mediatonas.
"According to the court, it was the knowledge of the ongoing litigation in the United States that led the defendant to the decision to liquidate a successful and large profitable company. The firm, managed by the defendant, conducted an advertising campaign of products, during which the name, image and reputation of Clint Eastwood were used, and articles were published without the consent of Clint Eastwood, " the publication says.
The Klaipeda District Court indicated that in this case the amount of damage is determined in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Lithuania.
"The court found that the financial situation of the companies controlled by the defendant is not such that he could compensate the amount of € 5,274 million awarded by the decision of the US court. In addition, quite a lot of time has already passed since the violations, which can be considered as mitigating circumstances for the payment of compensation," the publication also clarifies.
Taking into account these circumstances, the amount of compensation that the defendant must pay to Eastwood amounted to € 250 thousand.
As reported by EADaily, the 40th film of 94-year-old Clint Eastwood "Juror No. 2", which may be the last in his career, has delighted most critics. Based on 17 reviews, the Rotten Tomatoes portal assigned the film a "freshness" rating of 94%.
