The most difficult word for those taking the exam in Russian in 2026, when writing which exam participants had difficulty, was the word "threshold". This was announced by the head of the commission for the development of control measuring materials of the Unified State Exam in Russian Roman Doschinsky.
"This year, the word of discovery for us, and for the students, apparently, was the word "threshold". That is, many found it difficult to identify this word, although the context was given: "on the eve of the holidays," "on the eve of anniversaries," "on the eve of the weekend," RBC quotes the head of the commission.
In his opinion, this trend confirms the direct dependence of spelling on the volume of lexical stock of students.
"We need to read more, expand our vocabulary with the speech environment in which our examinee resides," Doschinsky recommended.
He also added that the average score in Russian has increased to 63.06 points this year. In 2025, this figure was 60.68.
According to preliminary data, the number of applicants has increased from 638 thousand to almost 662 thousand people. The number of graduates who received more than 61 points increased by 17.5% to 375.6 thousand people. The maximum score of 100 points was scored by 108 thousand people or 16% of the total, a year earlier there were 13% of such applicants. The minimum threshold was not overcome by 1.19% of exam participants, 3.8% of students did not score the required score for admission to the university.
As EADaily reported, the main period of passing the EXAM-2026 began in Russia on June 1 with exams in chemistry, literature and history. Russian language graduates of schools passed on June 4. The final exams in foreign language and computer science will be held on June 18 and 19.
From June 22 to June 25, there are reserve days for passing exams in all subjects, and on July 8 and 9, there are days for retaking one of the EXAM subjects chosen by the graduate himself before entering the university.
